I listened to a radio program a while back on what is actually a pretty important topic, though one we might take for granted today, and when it came up idly in conversation I was ashemed to have forgotten the name of the person responsible for safeguarding our health at least somewhat by his campaigning.

One of the probably forgotten/unsung heroes of the scientific world - Dr C. C. Patterson, who fought the lead industry over decades to get them to see that lead was in fact harmful to humans in much much smaller quantities than they randomly estimated. They sought to discredit him and ruin his career apparently, but the guy just wouldn't give up and I'm glad. Oh and he also managed to provide evidence to validate the estimated age of Earth. So I think he deserves a little remembrance.
